The 10th European Parliament election

The 2024 European Parliament election will be the tenth direct election of the European Parliament, and the first after the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union. The election will be held in all 27 member states of the European Union on 6-9 June 2024.

The election will use a proportional representation system, with each party winning seats based on the percentage of the vote it receives in each member state. The number of seats each country has in the European Parliament is determined by its population.

The European Parliament is the directly elected body of the European Union. It has the power to pass legislation, approve the EU budget, and oversee the work of the European Commission.

The 2024 European Parliament election is expected to be a closely watched event, as it will be a test of the popularity of the European Union and the state of democracy in Europe. The election will also be important for shaping the future direction of the European Union.

The following are some of the key issues that are likely to be debated in the election:

  • The war in Ukraine
  • The economy
  • Climate change
  • Social welfare
  • Foreign policy

The outcome of the election is likely to have a significant impact on the future of the European Union. If the pro-European parties win a majority, they will be able to push forward with their agenda, such as strengthening the European Union's defense capabilities and tackling climate change. If the nationalist parties win a majority, they could seek to weaken the European Union or even leave it altogether.
