The first day of Ramadan, a holy month of fasting for Muslims, will be observed as a bank holiday in Pakistan on March 12, 2024.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced the holiday in a circular issued on February 25, 2024. The circular said that all banks, development financial institutions (DFIs), and microfinance banks (MFBs) will remain closed on the day.

The SBP also said that all employees of the banks, DFIs, and MFBs will attend the office on the bank holiday and treat it as a normal working day.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. They also pray more often and try to do good deeds.

The end of Ramadan is celebrated with the festival of Eid al-Fitr. Eid al-Fitr is a three-day holiday in Pakistan.
